Musky Shop Northwoods Fishing Report: Late September 2024
If you’re heading to the Northwoods for some fall fishing, please stop by the Musky Shop for everything you need. Lately the temperatures have been a little warmer than typical for the Northwoods, in the 70’s and 80’s; however, do plan for a break as cooler temps are on the way. Lakes have been holding water temperatures near 70 and 71 degrees, nearing the muskies favorite temps for gobbling up fall suckers.
We’ve had a lot of South winds this season in the Northwoods, pushing walleye toward deep water sandbars and outcropping rock. Most of the walleye have been holding anywhere from 27-30 feet. Anglers targeting walleye have had luck finding them with crawlers, ret tails, and chubs. Also, both Rippin Raps and Jiggin’ Raps have had some success. As for panfish, many have been suspended over the deep weeds and weed edges. Look for panfish in the 10- 12-foot zone until water temperatures get cooler.
Muskies are in a transitional phase and hard to pin down in some of the Northwoods lakes. Anglers are finding them both shallow and deep depending on the time of day. Most of the anglers stopping by the shop have noted that morning fishing has seemed to produce the most action and overall better opportunities. Folks are finding success on shallow weeds with topwater lures like the TopRaider or Nitewalker. When fishing a little deeper, you can choose a favorite bucktail as they have been very successful this late in the summer season. Get your hands on a Figure 8 Big Daddy or Windel’s Harasser to catch a monster musky on the move.
This Sunday will be the first official day of fall and temperatures are soon going to cool off and the water will follow shortly behind. The fall bite will take off with a bang in the coming weeks and you’ll want to stop by the musky shop to pick up musky suckers to soak for incoming muskies. Stop by the Musky Shop for everything you need to fish the upcoming fall season. We are happy to serve you.
