Musky Shop Northwoods Fishing Report: Early June 2024

James Stewart June 07, 2024

Hi Everyone,

We hope you all are having a great fishing season so far. Fishing in the Northwoods of Wisconsin has been really good. We are getting good reports of all species being good to excellent. Most everything has been shallow however most species are starting to scatter a bit. There are still fish shallow but many are moving out to the edges and off of the edges.

So with that said when you hit the water it might be a good idea to start shallow from the shoreline and work your way out to a structural edge. Let the fish dictate your boat position, especially for Muskies. If you start fishing with that plan in mind hopefully you will be able to see a fish or two or catch a Musky or two and once you've located them concentrate thoroughly on covering those areas and you should have success.

For baits currently it would be wise to consider small to medium baits and slow to medium speed. Most of the water temps in the Northwoods are in the low to mid-60s. Now will Muskies hit large baits, they will, but for consistent success with the conditions we have slow to moderate speed, and small to medium-sized baits are definitely the way to go in my opinion and experience. Glide baits, bucktails, cranks, and soft plastics are all good selections.  Our favorites include River Run Mantas, Hooked on Musky Baits 7/8 Bombs, Bucher ShallowRaiders, and Musky Innovations Regular Swimmin’ Dawgs.

The live bait bite has been very good. For Walleye, Redtails, Walleye suckers, and XL Fatheads are a good choice. For Crappie, panfish, and bass try Crappie Minnows, Fatheads, and Night Crawlers. As for artificials, soft plastics, spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits are all working very well. If you need any assistance, please contact us to stop by the Musky Shop as it would be our pleasure to serve you.

Mark your calendar for Saturday, July 20th as we are having our 4th Annual Summer Musky Bash. There will be a lot of bait vendors attending, and some really Big sales as well as raffle prizes. It is a super fun day so bring the family to our event as we hope you can all join us. Again, Saturday, July 20th approximately noon-4:00 pm. Our event is free to attend.

That's it for this time around, thank you all very much for your business and support, we Greatly appreciate it.

Good Fishing and God Bless, Jim Stewart
