Cast Back with these Hot Baits for Late Summer

Cast Back with these Hot Baits for Late Summer

Jodie Paul August 26, 2024

With September right around the corner, we’re set to enjoy the last month of full-on musky casting fever.  This next month holds a place in many anglers' hearts as one of the favorites for good water temperatures, wonderful weather, and a frenzy of feeding muskies that start to realize fall is on the way. With the fall fishing cycle right around the corner, it just makes sense to highlight some of the Musky Shop’s favorite fall fishing tackle to get you in the mood for monsters.

Let’s start our list with the Chaos Tackle Posseidon.  The Posseidon comes in three great lengths and is a guaranteed late summer and early fall favorite when it comes to boating hungry muskies.  The Posseidon is great for those who like to practice a straight retrieve, but it’s also great for jerks and pauses to entice even the most finicky fish.  This lure fishes well in the mid-depth range as it is heavily weighted so it can get deeper on the pause allowing you to keep close to structure.  This lure is highly recommended when put to use over mid-depth reefs and will surely keep the muskies moving your way.

For jerkbaits, we love the action of the Livingston Lures Titan.  Like the Posseidon, it comes in multiple sizes. The original 8” Titan and the downsized 6” Titan Junior.  For the original-sized Titan, the adaptable weighting system makes it perfect for muskies that can’t choose between depths.  You can follow the baitfish from shallow to deep with this lure and target various structure and depths.  The Titan is a great all-around bait that takes barely more than a turn of the handle and a tap of the rod for great action with little effort.

If you’re still welcoming a hot blade bite as we move into late summer, sticking with bucktails might be your cup of tea.  “If you know you know” and we know that Musky Frenzy is keeping the attacks coming with their IC series of musky bucktails.  If you’re looking for quality and big blades, the IC7, IC9, IC10, and IC12 are just what you’re looking for.  These bucktails have great build quality, exceptional underwater profiles, and an enticing blade thump that drives those toothy critters wild.

When you can’t seem to find the edge this late in the season, it might do you some good to experiment with the best we have to offer in glide baits.  One exceptional lure this season is the ever-popular Bitten Tackle Warlock.  Available in regular and mag sizes, this glide bait might be the cure to a less-than-productive season.  Sometimes a twitchy glide is all you need to get those turn those sour grapes into fine wine. You might just boat your personal best if you dust off your Warlock.  Sometimes those finicky muskies would like nothing more than easy game, and a slow darting glider would be just the ticket.

Just because the weather’s beautiful and the vistas are impressive, doesn’t mean you should give those muskies a break.  Take a look at some of these highly recommended late summer, early fall favorites from the Musky Shop and you just might net your personal best before the season is through.
