Northwood's Fishing Report: Early January
Ice Fishing this week in the Northwoods of WI has been great.
The ice is in great condition with most lakes having approximately 10"-13" of ice.
Travel conditions are also very good on the ice with little snow accumulation currently.
Snowmobile travel and ATV travel are uncertain until we form a few more inches of ice for vehicle travel.
The walleye bite has been good. The Willow Flowage and the Rainbow Flowage have been producing very well. It's been a shallow bite, 5'-8' weed edges. Walleye suckers, and Medium Golden Shiners have been very productive.
The deeper clear water systems have also been producing a great bite. The bite on those systems has been a bit deeper but still relatively shallow: 8'-15' has been a pretty productive depth there again, look for weed edges and structural edges. Hyper RIP's have been great, especially tipped with a Fathead minnow.
The Crappie and panfish bite has been decent however not crazy good yet. Rosy Red minnows, Crappie Minnows, Red and White Spikes as well as waxies have been working well.
More snow and colder temps are on the way so head to The Musky Shop in Minocqua for your live bait and ice fishing rigs!
