Musky Shop Northwoods Fishing Report: Early April 2025
Depending on where you are located, winter is mostly behind us. Many of you throughout the US have been fishing already, however here in the Northwoods of Wisconsin our game fishing season is closed, and we still have approximately 13 inches of ice on our lakes as of April 9, 2025.
Ice Fishing for Crappies and Panfish
Ice fishing for Crappies and panfish has still been pretty good in the Minocqua area. Crappie minnows, wax worms, red spikes, and white spikes have all been working well. Late ice anglers are jigging and using tip downs and catching a good number of Crappies and panfish. Crappies and panfish are scattered a bit but many are being caught in the 12-18 foot range, depending on the type of system one is fishing. Some Crappies will actually suspend and hang near deep water, often setting up out off of weed lines and structure, and can be caught in pretty good numbers.
Safety Note: If you are planning on venturing out for some late season ice fishing in Wisconsin, please be very careful and use extreme caution—ice conditions change daily.
Walleye Fishing Near Tomahawk
Walleye fishing is legal on the river south of us near Tomahawk, Wisconsin. One of our guides, Al Frost, has been going out quite a bit and catching a good number of Walleyes. XL Fatheads is definitely the bait of choice. On the river, there are good numbers of small to medium size Walleyes as well as the occasional trophy mixed in.
Northern Walleye Season Opener
The Northern Walleye season opens up on Saturday, May 3rd, 2025. The first Saturday in May is always an exciting day, and hopefully many of you can join us in the Minocqua, Wisconsin area for a weekend of Walleye fishing. Summer Musky Bash Event
Enclosing, please mark your calendar for Saturday, July 19th, 2025. We will have our annual Summer Musky Bash in Minocqua. The Bash is a super fun day with lots of interaction with the many vendors that are present as well as learning and big sales. Hopefully all of you can join us.
